Random acts of kindness provide each one of us a time to reflect on the importance of life itself. Life doesn’t always go as planned and also, behind every mask of happiness lies a fragile personality whose desire for love and kindness is insatiable.

There’s so much happening around the world, but in spite of that, there’s this doggedness and tenacity to rise above all odds.

The least we can do as a people is to spread love and show kindness everywhere.

Together, we can heal the world…

1. Love yourself

Loving yourself first is key because, you can’t give what you don’t have. In doing this, you should know when to say ‘no’ and when to say ‘yes’ and also, do not give room for any form of comparison, understand the uniqueness of your journey. There’s also the need to move on from the shackles of regrets and past mistakes. Stop allowing the mistake you made affect the entirety of your life and genuinely forgive yourself and move on from the hurts and pains of the past waiting for an apology from the person who hurt you will slow down your process of healing. You also need to come to the understanding that everyone will like you no matter what you do, and no matter how much you try to please others, not everyone will like you. Also, try out fun things that make you happy, go for a hike, travel, watch movies and anything at all that makes you happy.

2. Smile often

Smiling is contagious and medicinal it helps to relieve stress and is also contagious. A smile in itself is magical and it creates a form of inclusion and gives a ray of hope. I heard a story from a friend, she decided before leaving her house to smile at everyone she meets on her way to work and she did just that. On getting to her workplace, while parking her car, she noticed a car parked beside her and the occupant had a big grin on his face, She smiled back and the man approached and said, I thought you knew me somewhere because you were smiling at me few minutes ago. Her smile brought a grown up to her and even when she wasn’t talking, her smile was doing a perfect job.

So, smile often. A smile can break through the hardest person and pierce their soul.

3. Compliment someone

People love compliments, there’s a lot going on with people and the least we can do as a people is to give ourselves rays of happiness in the midst of extreme hopelessness or helplessness. Telling someone they look beautiful can go a long way in determining how the rest of their day goes. I love compliments and when you tell me I am beautiful, it gives me a self boost and extreme confidence for the rest of the day. Giving compliments is a great way to boost someone’s self confidence, tell someone he’s looking great, tell them they’re smart, Compliments make people lose track of their insecurities. And sequel to the second point, it makes them smile.

Try to give compliments more than you give severe criticism.

4. Look for ways to foster peace between two erring parties

Always be inclusive, kindness will make you seek for peace and not disharmony. And it starts from forgiving those who have wronged you. Keeping or holding on to offences will not make you live rightly. Foster peace and harmony between two erring parties. In this way, the world can become a better place.

5. Be good to everyone

One of the first things that tells a lot about somebody is how they treat service staff, how they treat someone who cannot give anything back or reciprocate. Empathy helps you put yourself in the shoes of another, empathy is what makes you realise that the difference between the service agent and you is leverage and to know this is to know peace. Compassion is what makes you treat them with respect not because of what they have done but because of who you are, Compassion is inbuilt and it reflects in the way you treat other people. Be friendly and helpful, and above all, be approachable. Have a listening ear and don’t be the reason why someone will hurt themselves. As humans, we always remember those who helped us climb the ladder of progress and in the same way, we always remember those who disregarded us while we were still babies in our journey of becoming.

Choose to write your name with a gold lining on the heart of someone.

Kindness never goes out of style
