I published part 1 of this journey about two weeks ago; I have to be honest, I only started two days ago. In my past, it has always taken a month to get in shape. My routine will evolve as I progress; initially, my routine is a stationary bike. My stationary bike is the brand lifecycle.
In its day lifecycle was the top stationary bike. Its simple computer lets you choose between hill random and manual courses. A crude display shows whether the simulation is flat terrain or positive or negative steepness representing climbing or going downhills. Weather permitting, I will ride outside with my 15-speed street or mountain bike.
So that is my plan for the aerobic part of my workout. For the muscle-strengthening part of my workout, I will initially do the muscle-strengthening with a weight machine for the chest and shoulders. I will use a 3o to 5o pounds dum bell for my back workout and a device that works out your abdomen instead of crunches.
I need to check with my doctor before umping rope into my exercise routine jumping rope since I had a herniated disk.
The herniated disk deserves discussion since a rush to diminish the pain may leave one crippled.
A herniated disk refers to a problem with the components of the vertebrae that make up your spine.
You may have a herniated disk without any symptoms or pain. If your herniated disk, as mine did, puts pressure on the sciatic nerve, you experience something called sciatica. Sciatica is a term used to describe nerve pain in the leg caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve.
It is excruciating to have something irritating your sciatic nerve; There is big money in relieving the sciatic nerve pain caused by a herniated disk. All treatments are expensive, including cortisone treatments and surgery.
Having surgery on your spine comes with the risk of crippling you for life, no matter how good your surgeon claims to be. Cortisone treatments don’t last forever. At the height of my sciatica pain, I even tried acupuncture; it at best only gave me a couple of minutes of relief.
There is a safe way to recover from a herniated disk; In time, your body will fix itself.
The herniated disk contains water that your body gradually absorbs; This causes the disk herniation to shrink in size, pulling away from the nerve.
A problem with the way our medical system is set up is that the insurance companies have more say than the doctors. The insurance companies have written processes that your doctor must follow if the insurance company covers the procedure you and your doctor think is best for your ailment.
Somehow my Doctor and I decided it was a herniated disk causing my sciatic, and an MRI proved it,
The insurance company refused to pay for the MRI since the process the insurance company wrote stated that the prescribed treatment must start with physical therapy must be tried first,
The first thing in solving chronic pain is knowing what causes it; We discovered the source of the pain much sooner than we would have by following the unqualified insurance company’s process.
The insurance companies’ involvement was another example of why this country should join the rest of the 1st world countries and incorporate socialized medicine. * The unqualified insurance companies shouldn’t be involved in our medical decisions.
