Mackinac State Historic Parks calls for artist-in-residence applicants

Mackinac State Historic Parks is accepting applications for an artist-in-residence program next summer.

Artists of all mediums, including writers, composers and visual artists can apply to live on Mackinac Island and find inspiration in the island’s natural wonders, according to a news release from the parks.

“We were so pleased to have completed the third year of the program in 2021 and look forward to 2022,” Mackinac State Historic Parks Director Steve Brisson said in the release. “It was inspiring to witness how Mackinac sparked the creativity of the various artists these last three years.”

The chosen residents are housed for free in a studio apartment on the remodeled second floor of the historic Mackinac Island visitor’s center, formerly the 1915 Mackinac Island Coast Guard Station, according to the release. The apartment includes a full bed, private bathroom, washer and dryer, furnished kitchen and Internet.
