Palawan was named among “The Top 5 Islands in the Asia” and was ranked 5th with a rating of 88.63 joining Andaman Islands in India, Koh Samui in Thailand, Bali in Indonesia, and Maldives.

It also earned the 19th spot in the “World’s Best Islands” list and was recognized by the magazine for being an “unrivaled diving” spot together with Thailand’s Koh Samui.

The New York-based travel magazine described Palawan as a favorite tourist destination for its “mountains as well as white sand beaches washed by the Sula and South China seas.”

“Resorts [in Palawan] range from eco-chic stays to the spectacular Amanpulo resort, accessible only by private plane. Its 58 casitas and villas are nestled in the lush hillside and along the beach; each villa has its own chef and butler,” it added.

Meanwhile, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat welcomed the world-class recognition being given to the tourist island despite the travel restrictions and other challenges faced by the tourism industry due to the ongoing pandemic.

“The award accorded to Palawan speaks for the country’s tourism destinations, still being on top of mind of travelers,” Puyat said.

“The Philippines’ natural wonders, coupled with the world-renowned Filipino hospitality, make destinations like Palawan truly one of the best, not just in the region, but in the world,” she added.

In March this year, Nacpan Beach in El Nido, Palawan placed 18th among the “Top 25 Best Beaches in Asia” by travel website TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice 2021.
